In the
last issue of The DL, I noticed there were
five new $1B+ companies in Seattle. I should have also mentioned that up north in British Columbia, there have been
NINE new $1B+ companies over the last nine months:
-
Blockstream - Crypto infrastructure based on Bitcoin
-
Visier - Pre-built analytics for people and HR teams
-
Trulioo - Online identity verification services
-
Clio - Software for law firms
-
Dapper Labs - Blockchain-based games
-
GeoComply - Location compliance and fraud detection
-
Galvanize - Risk and compliance software
-
Thinkific - Online course platform
-
AbCellera - AI-powered antibody discover platform
- (Here’s a link to a longer article in the Vancouver Tech Journal)
With the exception of Dapper Labs (founded 2018), all of these companies were founded more than seven years ago (between 2007-2014).
It takes a long time to build a $1B+ business, and given how much the tech economy has grown over the last seven years, it’s exciting to think how many more soonicorns there are in the PNW.
